Scouting Report

Players Grade Comments
Hitting for Average
8

3/25/2012: Jema made some drastic improvements to her swing over the past 3-months. she’s added much better rhythm throughout her stroke and really had great live at-bats during games as well. Bumps up 1 point here.

1/21/2012: 2-plane swing, locates height of pitch/adjusts hands/and then works back towards the ball. trying to be too short in set-up with hand path, is actually causing longer swing. will have to get much more active and explosive to hit elite level pitching. with athletic ability, I have to believe the swing issues are technique based, not athlete based. has to get separation and much more athletic (whole body) approach to hitting

Hitting for Power
8

3/25/2012: Now that Jema is more rhythmic in the swing and more fluid she’s hitting for more power. power still comes to the pull field, but much more of it now. good adjustments and progress.

1/21/2012: has pop, but everything has to line-up right now. Jema will need to be more aggressive overall in all of her actions including hitting for power to reach her potential. top/down sequence from an athlete capable of better swings. has to learn to hit from a position of strength. potential 5-tool player if she can.

Running Ability
8

2.85 Home to 1B (update 3/25/2012 : drops .02 off home to 1B time)
Arm Strength
9

66 MPH overhand throw & 1.91 Pop Time
Fielding Ability
9

3/25/2012: looks good behind the plate as always, was around 64/65 overhand during workout and pop times stayed in 1.9 range usually. caught a lot of innings and looked strong throughout. called a good game behind the plate as well.

1/21/2012: great defensive catcher with a well above average arm. Jema is capable of a 1.7 pop time but is going to have to shave considerable time off glove to release (currently around .9 seconds to get rid of the ball). good receiver, blocks well and good catchers mentality and build. could be a shut down catcher with arm strength. very accurate arm as well.
